Hi I’m Bill Reidy, the founder of Thumbs Up.

As a sales professional and sales trainer for more than 25 years, I was always able to help my clients increase sales. But there was  one thing that I found most difficult to teach to business owners and sales people: how to effectively get more referrals from your customers.

Let’s be honest, asking for referrals is uncomfortable, and typically the ROI is poor. 

So I put together a team and I created Thumbs Up,  a software based referral system that gives businesses the ability to easily get more referrals without asking.

We all know that Customer Referrals are the hottest leads. Most of us think the best option is to ask for a referral after working with a customer. However, asking for a referral can make both the salesperson and the customer feel uncomfortable. Is it the right time to ask? Are the customers more interested in enjoying the moment and celebrating their new purchase? Even if we take the time and summon the courage to ask customers for a referral, it typically ends with the standard response--- “Let me think about it.” Honestly, do we really think our customers walk around with a list of names of friends and family we should call (or cold call) that are currently in the market for our products or services?

The second best “perceived” option is to rely on new customers posting great reviews, because a review is almost as good as a referral. However, we all know that even when we ask our happy customers to post a great review, they rarely follow through. They want to help us, but may not know what to write, may not have enough time, or may not remember.

In the end, even with the best intentions, to consistently earn those valuable referrals and reviews we just give up!
